Premier Inn York North*

The weekend before last, me and my boyfriend celebrated our first anniversary together. We decided months ago that we wanted to do something special for it, and after having a think we chose York as a place to spend the weekend. I love the city of York, I haven't been in years but whenever I go I always love how pretty everything is and how lovely and friendly the people there are. We thought we'd spend the Saturday seeing some sites and doing a spot of shopping, and then Sunday would be spent doing lots of exploring!

On the Saturday we headed into York and had a look at the castle, took in the views of the city and then headed to The York Dungeons for a bit of a scare-fest. I've never been to either of the Dungeons before so I was really looking forward to it (if not slightly apprehensive!) and we managed to get a 2 for 1 voucher (these are always everywhere - I would say never go to the likes of The Dungeons, Alton Towers etc. without them as they save you loads!) so it only ended up being under £16 for us both. The Dungeons were awesome, it was properly scary and I would say if you've got a nervous disposition it's definitely not for you! Also, top tip here - stand at the back so you don't get picked for anything! I was constantly on edge thinking they would pick me - they didn't, phew! After visiting The Dungeons we had a mooch round the city centre, looked in the shops and at all the pretty cafes and chocolate shops. We grabbed a bite to eat for lunch and sat in one of the gorgeous gardens to take in the beautiful weather - it was a seriously gorgeous day.

We were lucky enough to be treated to a one night's stay at The Premier Inn York North so we headed back there at around five to get ready for our meal and night out. I am a HUGE fan of Premier Inns. I am the fussiest person in the world and there aren't many hotels that you'll find me happy with, but Premier Inn NEVER disappoints. Their rooms are big, super clean, full of everything you need (kettle, tea and coffee, toiletries, pillows-a-plenty, television, hairdryer) and their beds are ridiculously comfy. Our room was no different - we even got a sofa as well which was a massive bonus. The bathroom was lovely and big too, really light and clean with a separate toilet to the actual bathroom which was great. We freshened up at the hotel, got changed into our glad rags and headed out to experience York's night life!

We'd booked a meal at Bella Italia which was absolutely lovely, I've never been before but would totally recommend it - it has a really authentic Italian atmosphere and the food was delicious. We didn't really have a clue where to go in terms of clubs and pubs, but a quick look on our phones showed us all the hot spots and we had a really lovely evening. After a gorgeous night's sleep in our lovely Premier Inn bed, we headed down to breakfast, something we'd both been looking forward to A LOT. The breakfast was actually amazing - I wish I'd taken pictures of it now (I did instagram a pic but it's not the same!) - there was a Full English with all the works, cereals, croissants, toast, yoghurts, fruit, muffins, crumpets... I could go on. I opted for a bit of everything - I loved the Full English as I was so happy to discover they did a veggie version, whilst Tom tucked into his bacon and egg-fueled feast.

After we'd filled up on breakfast, we headed out for a day of exploring. My boyfriend really wanted to show me Brimham Rocks, so we spent the morning there climbing and enjoying the views. It was really fun and I'd definitely recommend it. Afterwards we then headed to Stump Cross Caverns, after a recommendation from some locals the night before, and it was also really fun - don't we look good in hard hats?! We then popped to Harrogate, where I found the best Primark ever, as well as having a little peruse of the lovely Space NK there, and then we headed home, ridiculously tired from all the exploring but very happy to have had such a great weekend.

Me and my boyfriend had an amazing 1st Anniversary in York and a wonderful stay in the York North Premier Inn, which I would completely recommend. Are you a fan of Premier Inns? I seriously cannot fault them!
