Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eye Shadow Palette Review

Tuesday, 9 February 2016

You may or may not know this, but I have been a HUGE fan of Gwen Stefani since I was about 13 years old. And when I say huge, I mean it. I bleached my hair platinum blonde to look like her, was forever trying to imitate her perfect pillarbox red lips and had all of her merchandise - the perfumes, the clothes, even the camera! Gwen was and still is a huge inspiration to me, so when I heard she was teaming up with Urban Decay (one of my all-time favourite brands) I was completely over the moon.

Gwen was definitely the first big beauty icon for me growing up - with her immaculate brows, flawless skin, striking red lips and tousled ringlets, she's never seen without looking completely dolled up, and I love that about her. To be honest, I'm really surprised a brand hasn't snapped her up earlier to collaborate with, but I couldn't be happier than Urban Decay is who she chose to team up with.

Although when I think of Gwen's beauty look I immediately think of her bold lips, the first product to be unveiled from her collaboration with Urban Decay was an eye shadow palette - which makes sense, considering eye shadows are what Urban Decay do so well. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the beautiful palette and after using it for a couple of months now, I've got to say - I'm completely, totally and utterly in love.

From the oh-so-Gwen gold packaging to the perfect mix of nudes, brights and smoky shades, this palette has it all. There are matte neutral shadows, which are Gwen's go-to when it comes to rocking her rouge lips, a range of smokier shades perfect to pair with a nude lip, and a trio of super bright, bold colours that definitely complete the palette - after all, Gwen is never one to shy away when it comes to makeup. Speaking of which, I love the big mirror on this palette and how it has 'Magic's in the makeup' emblazoned on it - if you've not heard this No Doubt song - go and listen, it's one of my favourites.

Like all of Urban Decay's shadows, these are an absolute breeze to apply and what I really love about this palette is there are just so many different combinations you can get creative with. Whilst I usually shy away from the darker smoky shades, I've actually been experimenting a bit more with them since getting this palette and I absolutely love them.

Whereas the Naked palettes are very much all about the neutrals, I love that this palette has a little something for everyone - and it means that those who usually shy away from 'out there' shades can give them a go, whilst also having the option to try some seriously fierce nude shades too.

Overall I absolutely adore this palette and have been reaching for it every day since I got it. I would totally recommend it both to Gwen fans, Urban Decay fans and for anyone who is looking for a palette that covers all bases.

Have you tried any of Gwen's Urban Decay products yet? Lipsticks, lip pencils, a blush palette and a brow palette were recently added to the range - purses at the ready! You can check out the rest of the Gwen Stefani x Urban Decay collection here, or click the link above to see the palette.
