Green & pink bathroom makeover

Since buying our home a couple of years ago weโ€™ve worked on every single room in one way or another – whether thatโ€™s painting the walls, changing out the doors, adding panelling or transforming the kitchen cabinets. The one room that has been neglected for far too long is our bathroom – which, it just so happens, is the room that needed the most work.

A long-overdue bathroom renovation

Whilst all the other rooms have been made our own with a lick of paint and a bit of relatively simple DIYing, our bathroom was in dire need of a complete renovation. As youโ€™ll see in the before pictures, it was a lovely shade of beige and hadnโ€™t been updated in years. The shower was too big, on a runner and therefore a nightmare to clean, we hated that the sink was under the window so we couldnโ€™t have a proper mirror, and just the overall vibe of the room wasnโ€™t us at all. So, after putting it off for far too long (we knew what an upheaval going without a bathroom while itโ€™s being renovated is) we finally bit the bullet and did it.

The vision

Iโ€™ve been saving my dream bathroom inspiration on Pinterest for ages now, and looking back at my saved pins I saw a recurrent theme: green and/or pink bathrooms. Light, airy, bright and clean vibes with gold fittings and a wooden sink unit. While we were planning the bathroom I created a little mood board on Canva to ensure everything worked together and Iโ€™m so glad I did this as it really helped me visualise everything.

The process

Once we had the layout and colour scheme planned out, we set about ordering a tonne of tile samples. It’s so difficult to tell what tiles are like from images/online, so I’d always recommend either going to see them in person or getting some delivered. Getting them delivered was even more beneficial because we could take them up to the bathroom and get a better idea of how they’d look in the light. Eventually we settled on three lots of tiles – a plain white with slight bumps for the majority of the room, a stunning artisan green tile for a feature wall and some gorgeous pink and white patterned tiles for the floor.

In terms of choosing the shower/sink etc., we spent ages shopping around online trying to get the best deal – we noticed the prices varied a lot online so I’d definitely recommend shopping around to save some money. We shopped everywhere from Better Bathrooms to Victoria Plumbing, and while it’s always a bit risky ordering online without actually seeing the sink/unit/shower etc. in person, we were happy with everything we got.

The reveal

Ta-dahhh! I can’t quite believe the difference looking at these two pictures! We went from such a dull, beige room which felt cramped and short on storage space, to a light and airy bathroom with all the space we need and no clutter in sight. I think moving the sink and opting for a slightly smaller shower helped so much – the room feels so spacious and there is so much storage in the sink unit and the mirror cabinet.

Our bathroom feels completely transformed and I have to thank my husband Tom who did all of the work himself, despite not even being in the trade! From the plumbing to the tiling, he did it all and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. I totally recommend doing this yourself if you can – it’s a lot of work but we saved so much money, which meant we could splurge on things like the tiles and the unit.
